A very special treat xx

Have i got a treat for you this evening!!
unfortunately i haven't been online much :( as the kiddies mains leads to their computers broke and consequently have been hogging mine grrrrrr
Still  never mind, I'll have to have a hunt the weekend see if i can get at least one replacement.
This has meant that by the time they have retired for the night I've been too tired to even check a few thing's boo hoo
so what special treats have i for you?

Well i am lucky to live near to the latest crop circle that has swooped the net!! and... i had to go and have a peep, not that i didn't thing the the little green men had paid a visit, hehe but the simple curiosity of it all,
so i went armed with my camera and a few family members!!

i wasn't happy with this image as you couldn't quite see the full effect! so we preceded to climb further up the hill.

On our way up we were met by a couple who asked what we thought of it all?

So i told the lady well..... i find it fascinating but i seriously didn't thing it was anything bar a hoax after seeing the new addition to the far left of the field.!!

She was fuming..... she said no-one ever considers the damage that has been caused.

i felt guilty then the woman was the owner of the field and informed me that the little prang that swooped local newspapers, television and caused a stir on the web had cost them thousands of pounds :(

I tried hard to convince her that the only reason we were there was through pure fascination, curiosity and that we had never seen a spectacle like it before, that we were deeply sorry that people like this travel the world to perform such acts of vandalism we were genuinely none the wiser,

It certainly put a different perspective to it all, i was overcome with guilt simply for being there marvelling at the spectacle.

Let me show you what instantly convinced me it was a hoax

of course we had a chuckle when we first saw it, so why did they do it?

to prove that it is an hoax? it certainly convinced me there were no little green men landing on our fields

i knew it had to be a scientific thing so i asked the farmer lady how they did it! i won't go into it here just in case anyone happens to thing its a good idea to copy cat

I don't think these people realise like i didn't that this was someones land with hard earnt toil and strife to produce crops, that this act was costing someone thousands of pounds in ruined crops and devalued their expected crop! feeling really guilty for taking these few snaps :(

And if they did Shame on them!!

Later in the evening we had a stroll near the house and i thought I'd share with you a few snaps of wild foliage that surrounds us.

Yet another treat

i spent the weekend right through to Wednesday making this beauty for my sister in law

the idea was for a simple storage box to put her jewellery in on her dressing table.

the fabric is an ice blue polka dot so she wanted something to echo this and i came up with this!!

i was extremely good and wrote the pattern for you as i went along :)

i wanted the yarn to be firm enough to act as a stand alone and guess what i had in my stash!

A selection of sale yarns from my local yarn barn that i hadn't found a use for as yet!!

haha this was a stylecraft cotton acrylic mix 50/50 called kontiki

worked on a hook slightly smaller to my usual 4mm meant it would stand alone. perfect

i had to try so i did and it worked!!

remember how the cupcake was worked? US single crochet that was my line of thinking, if that stitch alone could be firm enough with stranded 100% acrylic then it would work slightly more compact with a cotton mix i have no doubt cotton itself would be perfect but you know, what you have at hand and all hehe

Whilst my sister in law was sat at my table we decided on its length by  firstly chaining until she was happy with it's length i did this on a 4mm hook (learnt my lesson on how hard that first foundation row can be if you use the same size hook!! 

i worked keeping to an even number and stooped at a chain of 36 i then switched to my 3.5 mm hook to work that first row

Time was getting on so i had instruction's from my sister in law as to what height she thought would be good she had already suggested the blue being added with spots dotted about i suggested a puff stitch she liked it!

but as you can see i didn't go with it!! hehe

The beauty of being left alone to crack on and come up with something unique.

So what did i do?

start ch 36 worked 2 single crochet (us) 4th ch from hook missing a stitch the 2 sc in next to the end 

chained 3 and turned the work

this left me with 34 sc

from turning the work i missed one stitch and worked 2 sc into next to the end adding 2 sc into the 2nd initial ch of the chain 3 chained 3 and turned i continued working like this till i was happy with the height worked out as 21 rows, but i wanted a ice blue flap turnover thing so i added the blue and worked 7 more rows yep i was happy with that turned over looked right!

so what do we have 36 x28

I will right out a proper tutorial and keep it separate as a page when i have worked out how!! lol

i did another duplicate piece 36 x 28 remembering to stop at 21 so that the blue could be added hehe

then i had to do the depth of the box i had already a rough idea and so worked a 22 chain with the 4mm hook and changed to 3.5 mm hook to work the pattern

i was happy with the outlook of the pattern as it looked basket weave like

feeling very proud of myself

couldn't stop i was on a roll hehe

all i had to remember was to stop at 21 rows and change to blue for the final 7

i had a tally chart on the go haha after every row i marked one stroke pointless struggling to remember what row you're on hehe.

2 of those done perfect the base well that's simple enough simply do the length of the longest piece which was 36 x the length of the shortest piece 22 ha

guess what i did i cheated i liked working the 22 chain one so i worked 22 and simply used my tally to stop at 36 rows. pinned it out so it was all even

sprayed it generously with spray starch and left overnight to dry

i wanted spots on it remember to match her fabric so instead of the puff stitches as i didn't think it looked right when I'd worked a few rows and consequently frogged it again i decided a simple magic ring of 6 dc would do the trick and voila happy bunny again i made 8 of them  i also made one of pertinitaco's flowers to adorn the corner pattern here ooh it was a tad big but it worked in it's own way

all i had to do was assemble it all

i decided on backstitching the seams together rustic feel to it

again i will do a proper tutorial soon if interested

i used the long tail of yarn on the blue circles to sew into place and added the flower to the corner

I hurriedly took it to her house and she was over the moon with it but did request  one of Pertinitaco's likkle bees for the flower hehe

Job done are you happy with your likkle treat? hehe .
